Basement Contractors are a Dime a dozen here in Metro Atlanta. Many claim to be Licensed & Insured but quickly change the subject when you ask them to prove it!
Keep in mind that Basement Renos or Finish projects requires expertise in many disciplines such as Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC and quite often, Foundation or Waterproofing issues.
"Unlicensed Al" or "Uninsured Ed" are simply dangerous propositions when it comes to, not only your hard earned money but the safety of you and your family!
The best Basement Contractors will gladly share their License and Insurance information with you and are proud of their references. Demand this information before considering anyone!
How much to Finish a Basement?
Like many other remodeling projects, we get asked this all the time and no, we do not just throw out numbers over the phone. The accurate answer to the question depends on MANY factors, such as...
Is your Basement already studded? Plumbed for a Bathroom or Kitchen or Wet-bar? (If you want these things) Is their Duct Work? Is the HVAC complete or non-existent? How about the Electrical? What stage is it in?
As you can see, there's a lot of different things to consider in coming up with an accurate estimate and the only way to do so is to find out your needs/dreams and to actually lay eyes on your Basement!
That being said, Basement Remodel or Finish projects are probably the most under estimated projects, cost wise, by homeowners. (A few know this. To most, this may be a surprise)
If your Basement is currently a blank slate. No Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical etc... Here's a little tip for you...
After you've determined the square footage of your Basement, take out a calculator. Enter the square footage. Then multiply that by 55.
So, a 1000 sq/ft blank slate Basement will START around $55.00 per sq/ft to finish or around $55,000. Now obviously, depending on the Finishes you want, that number can go higher.
On the other hand, if you already have some walls framed out or some of the Mechanicals installed, (HVAC etc...) this number would start out less. Maybe a lot less.
Please be careful though! You bet you can find guys who will say ~ "We can do that for $40.00 (or whatever) a sq/ft." We covered this above.
